Poonam Patel majored in Biology and received her Bachelors in Science degree from the University of Toronto and then attended the Canadian College of Naturopathic Medicine (CCNM) for her four-year post-graduate education in naturopathic medicine. Poonam has obtained in-depth medical training in naturopathic and allopathic modalities and completed a one-year internship at the Robert Schad Naturopathic Clinic.
Poonam Patel views naturopathic medicine as a unique and comprehensive approach to improving health, diagnosing and treating illness and preventing disease. It encompasses treating each person as an individual, healing the whole self (including physical, mental, emotional and spiritual aspects), and addressing the root cause of the illness.
In her practice Poonam integrates a variety of naturopathic modalities including nutrition and lifestyle counseling, Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) including acupuncture, botanical medicine, homeopathic medicine, hydrotherapy and physical medicine. Her special interests include women’s health issues (menstrual concerns, fertility, menopause, etc.), gastrointestinal disorders (IBS, IBD, constipation/diarrhea, etc.) mood disorders (anxiety, depression, etc.) and weight loss.
Poonam Patel is licensed under the Board of Drugless Therapies – Naturopathy (BDDT-N) and is also a registered member of the Ontario Association of Naturopathic Doctors (OAND) and the Canadian Association of Naturopathic Doctors (CAND). She also completed her Fellowship in Homeopathy from the Canadian College of Homeopathic Medicine.
